Father’s Day 2019: Make It A Special Day for Your Father

Mon 17 Jun 2019 Category : General | Posted By : admin

We will be celebrating Father’s Day in India on June 16th. Though many people say that a day in a year is not enough to acknowledge the contributions of a father in the life of a child, we want to differ from it. You can’t say thanks to your father, every now and then. It is like saying thanks for everything to your father on Father’s Day. It’s the day to show your gratitude.

The Historicity of Father’s Day

Unlike the popular belief, Father’s Day celebration dated back to the Middle Ages. Catholic countries would celebrate it on March 19th, every year. It’s the St. Joseph’s Day or the Day of the Nourisher of the Lord. March 19th is still celebrated as Father’s Day in Spain, Portugal and many other Latin American countries.

Celebrating Father’s Day on the Third Sunday of June

Every year, Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday of June in the USA and many other countries in the world including India. Till the beginning of the 20th century, Father’s Day was not celebrated as we do it now. In the USA, people began to celebrate Father’s Day as a civic celebration to complement Mother’s Day celebration. First customary celebration of a Father’s Day was reported on July 5th, 1908. It was held in a Methodist Church in Fairmont, West Virginia.

On June 19th 1910, Father’s Day was celebrated for the first time on the third Sunday of June. The idea was proposed by Sonora Smart Dodd of Spokane who wanted to acknowledge the contributions of her father who single-handedly raised her and five of her siblings.

How can you Make this Father’s Day Really Special?

Father’s Day celebration can be as simple as sharing the regular responsibilities of your father and give him rest. It is celebrated on Sunday so there’ll be no office work for him. If he loves to sleep, try to give him extra hours of sleep by sharing his early morning duties.

You can prepare some simple dishes like vegetable sandwiches (under the supervision of an elder) and serve it to your father on breakfast table.

Involve your mother and your siblings in the celebration. Make some nice plans like take him to some gourmet restaurant of his choice. Go and watch a movie. You can also plan a short weekend trip.

The idea is to convey your feelings of love and gratitude to your father through some special activity. Your father will cherish these memories forever.
